National Maritime Museum on Board for Tall Ships!
The National Maritime Museum Cornwall is one of the official partners for the Tall Ships event in Falmouth in 2008. Falmouth is the host port for the start of the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta which takes place from Wednesday 10th – Saturday 13th September.
The Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta organisers in Falmouth have the advantage of being able to use the NMMC facilities, a luxury not available when the Tall Ships were last in Falmouth in 1998. As an Official Partner, the Museum has kindly agreed to provide their Lecture Theatre, Learning Centre and the Flotilla Exhibition Hall and Café, free of charge, to the organisers, during the event. The Lecture Theatre will be used for Captain’s and press briefings, and the Learning Centre will be turned into a bustling media centre, with the event expecting to attract national media coverage.
Jonathan Griffin, Managing Director of NMMC reported; “it’s incredible to think that 10 years ago we didn’t exist and wonder to now be able to offer our facilities for further secure the success of the event. Falmouth is often the first and last port of call for many sailing endeavours and we are all looking forward to seeing fleets of tall ships fill our waters, further confirming Falmouth’s greatness as a first class destination”.
The event will run from Wednesday 10th September to Saturday 13th September. Everyone will be able to visit the ships taking part in the Regatta on Wednesday 10th – Friday 12th September and the regatta start will take place on Saturday 13th September 2008, and promises to provide a magnificent spectacle in Falmouth Harbour. |
