But it won’t just be the huge masts of the Tall Ships casting a ray of colour across the town. Thanks to generous sponsorship from Newquay Cornwall Airport those involved in the management of the event will also be adding to the colour spectrum in bright t-shirts.

The regatta’s main organisers who will be checking everything is running to plan throughout the events various sites and activities will be adding a splash of red to the proceedings whereas the team of 60 Liaison Officers will be highly visible in yellow t-shirts and caps. Liaison Officers provide an essential link between the ships and the host port and during the four days will be fulfilling a huge range of duties from supplying ship repair service details to laundry collections.

Sporting t-shirts in the event logo colours of sand and navy an army of volunteers will be carrying out tasks from stewarding in the Docks and selling programmes to road closure management and providing visitor information. Emily Evans, Sports and Cultural Volunteering Coordinator with Cornwall Centre for Volunteers said “The event is going to be amazing and volunteering is a really great opportunity to get involved and be part of it all. Although it will be hard work it is sure to be a memorable experience and lots of fun!”

John Hick, Chairman of the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta comments: “We have received huge support from volunteers from all walks of life and interests. It is heartening to see that so many people have an interest in the regatta and have given up their time to help out and make it a success, without their support the event would not be possible”.

“Newquay Cornwall Airport is delighted to become a ‘supporter’ of the Tall Ships Regatta, this year taking place in Falmouth”, said Karen Medweth, Head of Commercial Development at the Airport. “The event is rarely seen in Cornwall and looks set to be an enjoyable one, attracting people from all around the UK and Europe with many of the visitors now able to experience the convenience of flying directly to Cornwall using the local airport rather than having to make long surface journeys from elsewhere in the country.”
