Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta Parade of Sail Viewing from Pendennis Castle
Pendennis Castle was built by King Henry VIII because of its magnificent vantage point on Pendennis Headland, giving it unsurpassed views over Carrick Roads and Falmouth Bay – so where better to view the magnificent Tall Ships in their Parade of Sail on their way to the Race Start!
Partners, sponsors and supporters of the Regatta will watch the ships from the Castle, as a thank you for tremendous support of the Regatta, as they make their way from the Docks, around the Headland and out into the bay as they head for Ilhavo in Portugal, then on to Funchal in Madeira.
The ships will be the stars of the afternoon, however there will also be other attractions to view including the firing of the cannon at the Castle and a Search and Rescue display by the RNLI. The Black Knights Royal Artillery Display Team will carry out a parachute display off Pendennis Point, landing in the sea, before being picked up by safety boats. Both displays are in aid of the RNLI and will be able to be seen from Pendennis Point and Cliff Road. The RNLI will provide commentary for the displays from the lower car park at Pendennis Point, where more information about the charity and its work will be available.
