Local Company Announced as Main Sponsor for the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta
Skinner’s Brewing Company has been confirmed as the main sponsor for the Falmouth start of the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta 2008. Skinner’s Brewing Co. based in Truro produce an award winning range of Skinner’s ale, lager and cider and take great pride in using the best of Cornish produce and traditional methods.
Steve Skinner, Managing Director of Skinner’s Brewing Company reported; “When the Tall Ships last visited Falmouth in 1998, Skinner’s Brewery was in its first year and therefore as a company we are delighted to be associated with such a prestigious event. Skinner’s Brewery will be producing a commemorative Ale to mark the occasion and will be looking forward to celebrating the event with friends old and new. I am sure that Cornwall will be proud to have, on this occasion, a home grown Cornish company as the event’s main sponsor”.
Samantha Groom, Tourism Officer, Carrick District Council said “Carrick District Council is delighted to have a local company as the main sponsor for the event, and the support of Skinners Brewing Co. will not only enable us to put on an event the town will be proud of, but gives us the opportunity to add some creative fun to the marketing campaign.”
John Hick, Chairman of the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta organising committee in Falmouth added “This event can’t be put on without the support of local businesses and innovative and creative businesses like Skinner’s are just the type of sponsor the event needs“. The event will run from Wednesday 10th September to Saturday 13th September. Everyone will be able to visit the ships taking part in the Regatta on Wednesday 10th – Friday 12th September and the regatta start will take place exactly a year from today, on Saturday 13th September 2008, and promises to provide a magnificent spectacle in Falmouth Harbour.
The Regatta is organised by Sail Training International as the centre-piece celebration of the 500th anniversary of Funchal, capital of the island of Madeira. The official partners for the event are Carrick District Council as the lead accountable body, Falmouth Tall Ships Association, Cornwall County Council, South West Regional Development Agency, A&P Falmouth, Falmouth Harbour Commissioners, Cornwall Marine Network, National Maritime Museum Cornwall and Falmouth Town Council. |
