Tall Ships day three
Falmouth’s four day Tall Ship extravaganza has continued to break visitor number records on the third and final day of public access to the magnificent ships. Today up to 20,000 people have been on the docks Queens Wharf. With previous highs of nearly 30,000 on the first two days it brings the total to almost 50,000.
Amongst those who have joined the Ships today are 11 Cornish students who will complete the ten day sail to Ilhavo on board the Pelican and five further Cornish youngsters who will race them in the Alexander von Humboldt.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Falmouth bids farewell to the ships and crews with a spectacular Parade of Sail before Lady Mary Holborow fires the starting cannon five miles out from the Naval minesweeper HMS Cattistock at 16.30.
Undocking the ships for the Parade of Sail starts at 13.00 and the public can watch the Parade from vantage points stretching from Pendennis Head to Rosemullion Head on the Falmouth side and St Mawes on the other. Once the Ships are over the horizon there’s still lots more fun to be had back in Falmouth. Swap water for sand and dance the night away to sounds of the Beach Boys with Tribute band, California Dreaming at Events Square - a fitting finale to Cornwall’s biggest event of the year. Or support the local talent and take advantage of the free entertainment at the ‘Sundowner Quays’ at Church Street car park and Custom House Quay. |
