A&P sponsors youngsters

A&P Falmouth Ltd, ship repairers at the Docks, are delighted to have the opportunity to support students from both Falmouth School and Penryn College with funding for the forthcoming Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta leaving Falmouth in September. The pupils were selected after winning the ‘Tall Ships Challenge’ initiated by Sarah Newton of the Falmouth Tall Ships Association in conjunction with the two schools.

Peter Childs, Managing Director, said “A&P Falmouth is very much committed to supporting the event as one of the official partners, and many of the Tall Ships will be berthed at the Docks prior to setting sail for Ilhavo, Portugal. Originally the Company had offered sponsorship to relatives of its employees, but when this was not fully taken up an enquiry from Falmouth School led to six more local youngsters being invited to participate”.

Paul Kneebone, Personnel & Training Manager, said “A&P Falmouth has worked closely with both schools over a number of years now offering work experience to year 10 students and many apprentices, present and former, are ex-pupils of the schools. I was invited to assist in the selection process by interviewing participants of the ‘Tall Ships Challenge’ at Falmouth School, the standard of all the applicants was very good and it is a shame that more places could not be offered. I am sure that the race will be both challenging and rewarding and it is appropriate that the Company is able to support local youngsters in this nautical event”.
