Falmouth Tall Ships Association raises funds to enable local youngsters to take part in the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta

Stunning scenery, four boat trips and a Cornish cream tea was the reward for the fundraisers who took part in the Fal River Walk on Sunday 1st June. The money raised will be distributed between the Precious Lives Appeal, Shelter Box and the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta taking place in Falmouth in September.

Having completed the walk with her husband, Falmouth Tall Ships fundraiser Sarah Newton expressed her thanks to the organisers; "The Rotary Club of Truro Boscawen and Tim Light of King Harry Ferries organised the walk brilliantly” she said. “All the walkers were well looked-after with clear instructions and sign-posting as well as encouraging marshals and attentive St John's Ambulance helpers. It was a humid day and we were all very grateful for the delicious cups of tea and cakes that were provided at the end of the walk by the wives of Truro Boscawen Rotary Club."

Mr John Hick, the Chairman of The Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta in Falmouth, added his thanks to the organisers and to all those who undertook the long and challenging walk. “The sponsorship that the walkers raised will go to three very worthwhile local causes”, he explained and added “I am delighted that the money that Falmouth Tall Ships Association is to receive will go towards enabling local youngsters who competed in the “Tall Ships Challenge”, organised with Falmouth & Penryn Community Colleges, to sail the first leg of the race to Portugal. I am sure it will be a great challenge for them and something they will remember for the rest of their lives."
