Souvenir CD for the Tall Ships!

Well known sea shanty group Falmouth Shout have released their new CD Falmouth for Orders in time for the forthcoming Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta in September.

With a mix of traditional shanties and sea songs, the group’s intention is to make the CD appeal to as wide an audience as possible. Falmouth Shout’s John Warren said “People attending the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta will want a lasting souvenir of the atmosphere and historic spectacle that they will undoubtedly experience. We feel our new CD fits the bill, we are delighted with it.”

Many of the sixteen tracks are rousing work songs like Old Billy Riley and Roll the Woodpile Down, whilst others such as Shenandoah and the beautiful Connemara Cradle Song exemplify Falmouth Shout’s main difference from most sea shanty groups - half of them are female! John commented; “This gives us a much greater range and repertoire and, I hesitate to say, songs which feature the girls' leading, often draw louder applause from our audiences!" Humour features strongly on the CD too, reflecting the dry and often bawdy wit of seamen. Try listening to the live recording of their Politically Correct version of The Battle of Trafalgar without smiling!

Falmouth Shout is now an integral part of Falmouth's nautical scene, organising the Sea Shanty Festival, which this year runs from the 13th to 15th June, and they will play a major part in the entertainment planned for Falmouth who will host the start of the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta in September. A proportion of the profits from the sale of every CD will be donated towards the costs of staging the event in Falmouth and towards the RNLI. Copies are available via www.falmouthshout.com or from various outlets including the Maritime Museum, Falmouth Tourist Information Centre, Falmouth Town Council Offices, the RNLI shop and The Cornish Store.
