Priority Sites Ltd and Alder King team up to sponsor the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta 2008 in Falmouth
Leading regeneration specialist Priority Sites and property and planning consultancy Alder King have joined forces to sponsor this year’s Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta in Falmouth, the organising committee has announced.
Falmouth will be hosting a four day celebration before the start of the regatta on the 13th September, which will tie in with the completion of a new 24,000 sq ft speculative office development by Priority Sites on Falmouth Business Park. The scheme of 10 office units is set to provide much-needed modern workspace for new and expanding companies that will also boast a high level of ‘green’ credentials.
Miles Carden, area development manager for Priority Sites commented: “We are extremely pleased to support such a prestigious event particularly in a year when we are completing the first speculative office development of its kind in Falmouth for decades. The regatta will be a fantastic event that will reinforce Falmouth’s marine heritage and highlight the importance of the marine business sector to the town.“
Property consultants Alder King have been involved in the regeneration of Falmouth for many years and have been sole agents on waterside development Discovery Quay since 2003. They are also working alongside Priority Sites on regeneration projects across Cornwall which will create new business parks and industrial units to boost the local economy.
Ian Simpson, Partner at Alder King said “The Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta is an event that will bring the whole community together to celebrate Falmouth’s maritime history. We are honoured to play a part in such an important event, and believe it will bring great benefits for both the port and the town.”
John Hick, Chairman of the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta Falmouth added; “We are delighted to welcome these sponsors on board, without sponsorship from the business community the event would not be possible. We look forward to working with all of our sponsors and turning the start of this prestigious regatta into an outstanding event for the whole of Cornwall”.
Up to 30 vessels will gather in Falmouth for a four day festival from 10th to 13th September this year, prior to them taking part in the regatta when they will race to Ilhavo in Portugal and then to Funchal in Madeira.
The Regatta is organised by Sail Training International as the centre-piece celebration of the 500th anniversary of Funchal, capital of the island of Madeira. The official partners for the event in Falmouth are Carrick District Council as the lead accountable body, Falmouth Tall Ships Association, Cornwall County Council, South West Regional Development Agency, A&P Falmouth, Falmouth Harbour Commissioners, Cornwall Marine Network, National Maritime Museum Cornwall and Falmouth Town Council.
