Design for Skinners ‘Name the Ale’ Competition is announced
The competition winner for the Skinners ‘Name the Ale’ competition, being run in conjunction with the organisers of the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta 2008, was announced on Monday.
The winning entry is ‘Manacles’ submitted by Andrew Turner from Praze and Beeble. Andrew is currently in Australia, so was unable to attend the photo call to unveil his character, but Sarah; his daughter joined the organisers to celebrate on his behalf. She reported that “my dad really likes history which is why he came up with the name Manacles – as he put on the entry form, there’s nothing more infamous than these rocks to end up on – he was very surprised to win, but delighted!”
Steve Skinner added “we are very pleased with the choice of the winner; The Manacles are part of Falmouth’s history, although infamous, they are a very appropriate theme for the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta and I am looking forward to creating the beer and the bottle label, which is always good fun, especially working with the creative heads of my illustrator Nick and designer Stuart”.
As winner of the competition, Andrew’s character will now be included in the design for the label for this specially-brewed ale for the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta in September 2008. Posters, banners and promotional material will also be produced, on the theme of The Manacles. Andrew will receive a signed copy of the artwork by Skinner’s illustrator Nick Beringer, will receive recognition on the label, a case of Skinner’s Beer and will be invited to watch the start of the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta from Falmouth as they head towards Ilhavo in Portugal, aboard the Tall Ship Mercedes on September 13th next year. The new ale will be launched at Expo West in March next year.
