Maritime Museum adds support for the Falmouth to Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta in 2014

National Maritime Museum Cornwall is standing tall in the knowledge that it’s at the heart of the forthcoming Tall Ships Regatta in Falmouth in 2014.

Jonathan Griffin, Director of the Museum says: “No one can fail to be amazed at the sight of one tall ship, so the sight thirty of these ships moored in Falmouth harbour and sailing our seas in August 2014 is one that everyone, who has even just a small amount of sea salt in their bones, should come and see.

Our relationship isn’t just about offering facilities, support and staff back up for the event itself but is a collaborative one that started months ago. Our seasonal lecture programme launches with a talk by John Hick, Chairman of the Falmouth Regatta organising committee on Monday 7th October 2013. John’s talk, highlighting the work that goes on behind the scenes, will give an insight to the work that goes into organising a Tall Ships events, is just the tip of the iceberg of a year-long marketing campaign building up to the event. Our staff and volunteers communicate the event to our visitors and our website, press and social media activity adds to the rich mixture of county-wide support for such a major event.

Tall Ships is not only an event for Falmouth but an event for Cornwall. Historically it has delivered £12m to the local economy and working in partnership to secure and market these events for the future, adds a greater depth of interest to Cornwall’s event calendar and to the county’s economics.”

Sam Groom, Festivals and Events Manager at Visit Cornwall, Cornwall Development Company’s tourism service, heading up the management of the event in Falmouth confirms, “A major event such as this involves a huge amount of organisation and could not take place without a wide range of partners support, all working to achieve maximum benefit for Falmouth and Cornwall.

“We are pleased to announce the Maritime Museum as an Official Partner for the Regatta in Falmouth. Billed as the biggest international maritime event in the South West of England in 2014, Falmouth will again be the centre of attention for the world’s media. With its prime harbour-side position with panoramic views over Falmouth Harbour and Docks, the Museum’s excellent corporate facilities will host journalists from across the globe.”
