Far Barcelona

Far Barcelona was built in 1874 and is one of the oldest vessels taking part in the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta. She is a Norwegian jakt, Historically, jakts have been used for fishing, seal hunting and transporting emigrants. Amundsen reached the North Pole with the help of a jakt.

The ship was restored at the EL FAR Consortium's shipyard in Barcelona as part of a project to offer professional training in maritime trades. Far Barcelona has been fitted with all the latest communication, IT and security technologies and is powered by renewable energy (wind and solar) in accordance with sustainability criteria.

Far Barcelona has served as a “floating classroom” for the last 10 years. It has played host to some 15,000 hours of training in shipbuilding and maintenance.
