Fal River Cornwall on board for the 2014 Tall Ships Regatta
Fal River Cornwall is the latest Event Partner to sign up to the Tall Ships Regatta in Falmouth taking place in August this year. The company successfully tendered to provide a ferry service to Falmouth Docks for direct access to the large ships and will be assisting with providing visitor information points at each of the Entertainment Centres during the event.
The ferry services will run from Prince of Wales Pier and will mean visitors will be able to have direct access to the large ships, when they are docked at Queen’s Wharf. The ferries will be backed up with Fal River Cornwall visitor information points at each of the Entertainment Centres during the Regatta.
In addition to the Docks ferry service, Fal River Cornwall will also be providing a comprehensive range of other transport options during the festival. The Falmouth Park & Ride will run as usual; as will the regular ferries to St Mawes and Enterprise Boat services up the Fal River to Truro.
Boat charters for individuals or groups will also be available before and on race day, allowing visitors the chance to see the ships up close when out at sea.
Tim Light, Managing Director of Fal River Cornwall, said: “We are delighted to support the Falmouth Tall Ships Regatta, both as a funding partner but also as a provider of visitor services, including transport and information.
“Events like this are not only great fun for local people and visitors but they also help to promote the area in a more general sense and in particular Falmouth as a great location for world class marine events. We are already getting accommodation and charter enquiries for the Tall Ships week and can’t wait to see the harbour graced by these magnificent vessels again”
Sam Groom, Festivals & Events Manager at Visit Cornwall, Cornwall Development Company’s tourism service added, “Transportation will be a key element for the Tall Ships Regatta in Falmouth in 2014. We are anticipating in excess of 100,000 visitors throughout the four days of the Regatta and managing transport links and visitor movement, especially in Falmouth Docks, will be of paramount importance.
“We are very pleased to announce Fal River Cornwall as Event Partner for the Regatta in Falmouth and look forward to working with them for what is set to be a really exciting event. We know from the 2008 Tall Ships event that next year’s Regatta will attract large numbers of visitors and provide a significant boost to both the economy of Falmouth and the wider Cornish economy”.
The Regatta takes place in Falmouth from 28th to 31st August, with the large square rigged vessels berthed in the Docks open to the public for the first three days of the Regatta, before the spectacular parade of sail as the vessels make their way to the race start on Sunday 31st August. A wide programme of events will be offered throughout Falmouth from live music and entertainment, exhibitions and displays, children’s activities and a grand firework finale – leaving no doubt that the Tall Ships are in town!
Full details of traffic management plans including ferry services will be provided on this website, when finalised.
